Greetings All!
I think it's coming,
Spring is peeking it's head around the corner. March is green if only on St
Patrick's Day and green is the color of hope. This month Slow Food Baltimore
is appealing to you to make a difference and engage in some pleasurable
philanthropy. In doing so, you will provide hope to Children around the world
from us that there is a better day around the corner.
Sunday March 21rst in collaboration with
Cape Classics
Importers, Tersiguels Restaurant,
Slow Food Baltimore is hosting a grass roots fundraiser to assist the great
work of our sister convivium in Capetown, South Africa. The funds accumulated
from this dinner will go directly to the FUNA FOOD Fund, something our fellow
Snails created to help fund the education of impoverished youth in South
Africa.
Chef Michel Tersiguel has put together a
scrumptious 5 course traditional French meal highlighting dishes from all over
France's winemaking regions. See the menu and reservation form below.
Because the funds raised will be sent to South
Africa and not used for Slow Food here in the USA we cannot provide a tax
receipt for the donation portion. I can however include documentation on the
work the Funa Fund and the Grasslands School. I was so moved by my South
African Co-Leader Jos Baker's speech to the International Congress,
highlighting the plight of South Africa's children that I felt this
initiative, though small could provide some support and great hope.
We, the Slow Food Baltimore steering committee
give you our word that these funds will be used exclusively for the children
enrolled at the school's benefit and are happy to provide you with Jos Baker's
contact info, should you like to do more research yourself. The $500 dollars
we have donated have already gone towards tiling the kitchen's new floor and
with the exchange rate, helped cover a few other things such as potato peelers
that the school needed.
We really hope to completely fill Tersiguels with
this dinner, if we did that, we could provide sufficient tuition for 50
children to attend the Culinary program for a full year. Please help us make a
difference, we are counting on your support to make this event a resounding
success. In the past, we've held fundraisers for local causes and you've
always answered our call, help us make a true international gesture of
friendship and conviviality in the name of Slow Food Baltimore. Attached you
will find more info on the school as well as a copy of the letter sent by Jos
Baker to the Vice President of Slow Food International, Guilio Columba
expressing thanks for Baltimore's small but meaningful effort. Below this
email you will find the menu and reservation form. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO
PEOPLE YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING, THE MORE THE MERRIER AND
THIS IS A WONDERFUL INTRODUCTION TO THE PHILOSOPHY OF SLOW FOOD AND WHAT SETS
IT APART FROM OTHER FOOD AND WINE ORGANIZATIONS.
March 17th - May the Luck
of the Irish be with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also on St Paddy's Day join us for a pay as you
play celebration of this green day of Celtic culture at Sean Bolan's in
